Remember, Choosing Your Needles Is Important

To knit a cord, one can knit using two double-pointed needles and begin by casting on a few stitches of approximately three to six. It is best to use short needles and one should knit all of the stitches and instead of turning out one’s work and using the reverse direction for knitting , it is best to move the needle along with the stitches to the left hand without turning one’s work. This is followed by sliding the stitches to the other end of the needle and at the same time pulling the yarn across the back of the stitches. This should be repeated for each row and should be continued by sliding and knitting until the cord is of the desired length. In the end, thread the yard through the final stitches and then firmly pull. It is possible for first time knitters to use basic knit and purl stitches and have minimal shaping as they will find this an easy way of beginning to learn the fine art of stitching.

There are easy projects available for knitters to practice using basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns and simple color changes to make their experience an enjoyable one. When the knitter becomes better acquainted with knitting he or she may begin projects with a variety of stitches, such as basic cables and lace, intarsia that is simple using double-pointed needles and using the technique of the round needle which can have mid-level shaping as well as finishing.
